Liu Shaoqi

Liu Shaoqi (1898-1969). Soviet-educated Communist organizer and theorist, author of How to Be a Good Communist. President of the People's Republic of China and vice-chairman of the Chinese Communist Party, regarded as Mao Zedong's heir apparent until he was purged in the late 1960s.

During the Cultural Revolution, he was criticized as a "capitalist roader." He died in prison in 1969.
