First day Red Guards' "smashing the four olds" took action: August 19, 1966.

August 23: People's Daily editorial, 'Good Indeed! (It's Fine!)' praising and encouraging Red Guards to demolish the Four Olds.

August 24: Largest action against the Four Olds. Red Guards in Beijing change the street's name where the Soviet Embassy is located, from 'Yang Wei Road' to 'Fan Xiu Road.' First anti-Liu Shaoqi poster appears in Qinghua University (Zhou Quanying, the author of the poster, dates it as August 22).
